Redstone Dye

by SmartStreamLabs

Redstone Dye lets players uncraft redstone-red dye back into redstone dust, giving the classic dust a second use in the crafting grid.

What it does

The mod adds an uncrafting recipe for red dye that returns redstone dust. It was written to keep vanilla gameplay intact and add a small quality-of-life change, not new mechanics or balance changes, and the author describes it as a simple crafting solution for a request players raised for years.

Because the environment is server-side only, a server owner installs it and players join without it. Files are published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 18 release versions, 1.17.1 – 26.2, under All rights reserved, so the code is not open source. A public issue tracker is linked for reports.

Key features

  1. Uncrafting red dye

Red dye can be broken back into redstone dust through a crafting recipe, so the dust has an extra use.

  2. Vanilla-friendly change

The change adds a convenience crafting path and leaves the rest of vanilla redstone behavior as it is.

  3. Small scope

The mod covers one uncrafting path rather than complicated systems, and it does not alter other recipes.

Split Shulker Boxes is a client and server mod under the MIT License for 1.19.4 – 1.21.3, and ColouredBundles needs both sides on Fabric and NeoForge for 1.20.4 – 1.20.6 under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only. Redstone Dye is server-side only and not open source, so only the server needs it.

What the author says

Ever looked at redstone dust and thought… why can’t I just use this as dye? This mod lets you uncraft redstone into red dye, giving the classic dust a logical extra use. It stays true to vanilla gameplay while adding a small quality of life improvement that just makes sense. No complicated systems. No balance…
