Redacted Log
by Strudel
Redacted Log is a NeoForge server mod that hides sensitive values in the server console and log files before they are printed.
What it does
The mod intercepts each message before it is written, so the replacement happens at the source rather than in a later cleanup step.
The console stays live and readable, and the log structure is kept intact: log levels stay as they are and only the sensitive parts are rewritten. Because the change is made before output, the redacted text never reaches standard output or the plain-text log files, including latest.log.
Redacted Log runs on the server alone and is published for NeoForge 1.21.1 only. Only the server needs it, and players join without installing anything. The code is open source under the MIT License, and the source code and issue tracker are public.
Key features
Automatic redaction
IP addresses, player UUIDs and world coordinates are replaced with REDACTED placeholders without manual setup.
Readable console
The live server console keeps its log levels and message structure, so only the sensitive data is hidden.
No stdout piping
Interception happens at the message level, so the mod sidesteps stdout piping and log4j2.xml replacement tricks, both of which can silently discard entries.
Clean log files
Redacted values never reach standard output or the plain-text log files on disk.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Sharing logs for support
A server owner can send a log file to someone else for troubleshooting without exposing player addresses or base locations.
Public server consoles
Operators who stream or show their console can keep player IPs and UUIDs out of view.
Who it’s for: Server owners who share logs or display the console to others and want player IP addresses, UUIDs and coordinates hidden automatically. Players do not need the mod.
How it compares
Log Begone is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt across 1.16.5 – 1.21.1, and it runs on client and server. ServerConfigCleaner is server-side only, open source under the MIT License and published for Forge and NeoForge across 1.13.2 – 1.21.4, so it targets configuration files rather than log output. Redacted Log is server-side only and covers NeoForge 1.21.1 alone.
