Randomized Armor Loot
by subernaut
Randomized Armor Loot changes which armor pieces appear in chest loot, swapping vanilla pieces for random ones of similar tier.
What it does
Randomized Armor Loot replaces armor pieces found in chests with other pieces drawn at random, while keeping the strength of each armor type balanced. A boots slot, for example, is filled with another pair of boots of an equal or lower armor value, so the swap does not make the loot stronger than the original piece. Armor pieces below the leather, gold, iron or diamond tier stay as they are, and the replacement applies only to vanilla armor, leaving chainmail out.
The mod requires KubeJS and the LootJS: KubeJS Addon to run. It works on Forge and NeoForge for game versions 1.20.1 – 1.21.1, and its files are published under the MIT License. Whitelists and blacklists are planned to control which armors are replaced and which can appear as replacements, so server owners can tune the result. It is required on the server and optional for players.
Key features
Balanced random chest armor
Armor pieces in chest loot are swapped for random pieces that keep the strength of each armor type in balance.
Equal or lower armor value
A replacement is chosen from pieces with an equal or lower armor value than the one it replaces.

Items below leather, gold, iron or diamond grade are ignored and stay as they were in the loot table.
Vanilla armor only
Only vanilla armor pieces are replaced, with chainmail as the exception.

Use cases
Varied dungeon loot
Servers with custom progression can make chest armor less predictable from one world to the next.
Modpack tuning
Pack authors can reshape which armor appears in chests without editing every loot table by hand.
Who it’s for: Server owners and modpack authors who want chest armor loot to vary while keeping its strength balanced. Players need nothing installed on their side.
How it compares
Craftable Chainmail Armor is a Forge and NeoForge mod for 1.20.1 – 1.21.1 that makes chainmail craftable, and it is licensed as All rights reserved. Smithing Tweaks is a Fabric, Forge and NeoForge mod for 1.20.1 – 1.21.8 that runs on both client and server, under the CC0 1.0 Universal license. Randomized Armor Loot differs by changing loot tables rather than crafting or smithing recipes.
