Railed

by PaulM

Railed changes powered rail recipes, lowers the copper cost of powered rails and gives copper more uses, with the aim of making rail travel more practical.

FabricClient and serverAll rights reserved1.21 – 26.2

What it does

Railed adds a self-powered rail recipe and lowers the material cost of powered rails, so copper and gold are easier to gather for them. Copper gets additional crafting uses, and the minecart speed is modified so that rails become a more viable transport method. Mojang has experimented with similar changes, but no equivalent is in vanilla.

Railed requires Fabric API. Servers that run it need every player to install it too. Files are published for Fabric only, covering game versions 1.21 – 26.2 across 13 release versions, and the latest file is 1.1.3+26.2 for 26.2, dated 2026-07-18. It is released under All rights reserved and is not open source, though the source code is publicly available.

Key features

  1. Self-powered rails

A rail recipe is added that produces rails able to carry a minecart without an external power source.

  2. Cheaper powered rails

The copper cost of powered rails is reduced, which makes gold-based rail networks less expensive to build.

  3. More copper uses

Copper gains new crafting applications, giving the metal more purpose in the early and middle game.

  4. Faster minecarts

Minecart speed is adjusted so that rail transport is a practical option over long distances.

Use cases

Cheaper rail networks

Players building long lines of powered rail can use the reduced copper and gold costs to finish a network sooner.

Early-game transport

Self-powered rails let a minecart travel a route without a supply of redstone power along the track.

Who it’s for: Players who find powered rails expensive to build, and server owners who want rail transport to be a practical choice for their players.

What the author says
