ProjectE: EMC for Deeper and Darker

by KURONAMI

ProjectE: EMC for Deeper and Darker lets the Deeper and Darker materials take part in ProjectE's transmutation system, with hand-set values for the new drops.

What it does

The add-on requires ProjectE and Deeper and Darker. Its main job is to assign EMC values to materials from the host mod, such as resonarium, warden carapace, reinforced echo shards, sculk catalyst, gloomsherds, the heart of the deep and ancient vases. Without this add-on, ProjectE cannot price those materials, so they stay outside the transmutation economy. Fixed values cover the host's core materials, and ProjectE works out the remaining items from their recipes.

The values follow the progression order of the host mod. Each later material is priced above what an earlier step can produce, so a player cannot skip a stage by transmuting ahead. Ancient vases are priced above the expected return of opening one, so repeatedly opening them does not produce a net EMC gain. Both smithing templates from the host are set to the same value band as vanilla netherite templates, which keeps duplicating a template more expensive than the template is worth.

The add-on is server-side only: the server runs it, and players join without installing it. It is published for Forge and NeoForge, with a build for 1.20.1 and one for 1.21.1. The newer build covers more items, mostly because newer host blocks, such as the sculk transmitter in sixteen dye colours, have no counterpart in the older release. The code is public, but the add-on is released under All rights reserved.

Key features

  1. Hand-set EMC values

Core Deeper and Darker materials receive fixed EMC values, while the remaining items are derived by ProjectE.

  2. Progression-aware pricing

Each material is valued above anything earlier in the progression can produce, which blocks skipping a stage.

  3. Vase and template balance

Ancient vases and smithing templates are priced so opening vases or duplicating templates yields no net gain.

  4. Dye-colour transmitters

The sixteen sculk transmitter colours are declared as explicit conversions, so ProjectE prices each one.

Questions

Does ProjectE: EMC for Deeper and Darker need Deeper and Darker?

Yes. Deeper and Darker is a required dependency, and the add-on only prices materials that the host mod adds.

Does the add-on have to be installed on the client?

No. Only the server needs it, and players join without installing anything.

Why do the 1.20.1 and 1.21.1 builds differ in size?

The newer build covers more items, because host blocks such as the sculk transmitter have no counterpart in the older release.

What the author says

With this add-on, Deeper and Darker's materials gain EMC and can be used in ProjectE's transmutation system; without it, ProjectE cannot price them. The values are set so that the mod's deep-dark rewards keep their place in progression instead of becoming cheap alternate sources. Hand-set EMC is placed on the host's…
