Pressure

by curley

Pressure makes the player take damage while submerged, with the amount scaled by how far below the surface the player is.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.19.2 – 1.20.6

What it does

Damage starts once the player is submerged, and it grows with depth below the surface. The mod uses the player's depth below air and applies damage in proportion to how far underwater they are, out to around 50 blocks, so small offshooting water caves do not cancel the effect. A depth threshold delays the first damage until a few tens of blocks down, and the armor value affects how much of the damage is taken.

Water with air pockets above the sea level and the surface around y=70 are treated alike, so the effect follows the actual depth of the water rather than a fixed height. The author describes the mod as an experimental attempt at a survival experience, and recommends pairing it with a deep ocean mod for the intended feel. Pressure is published for Forge and NeoForge across three game versions, 1.19.2 – 1.20.6, and runs on client and server.

Key features

  1. Depth-scaled damage

Damage increases the deeper the player sits below the surface, up to about 50 blocks down.

  2. Submersion check

Damage applies only while the player is fully submerged, not while standing in shallow water.

  3. Depth threshold

Players are spared damage until a few tens of blocks below the surface, then the damage begins.

  4. Armor-based reduction

The armor value of the player lowers the damage taken from the pressure.

Use cases

Ocean survival servers

Server owners who want deep water to be a real hazard can add the mod so exploring the seabed carries a cost.

Modpacks with ocean content

Pack makers can include it alongside ocean generation mods for a harsher underwater setting.

Who it’s for: Players and server owners who want deep water to carry a survival risk. The author notes it is experimental and suits modpacks where its intent fits the pack.

Questions

Does Pressure need to be installed on both sides?

What the author says

VERY simple mod that adds scaled damage that's dealt when you go deep underwater. Damage is scaled by how deep you go, and the starting depth is increased based on armor value. ### VERY EXPERIMENTAL, NOT INTENDED FOR AN ACTUAL SURVIVAL EXPERIENCE (though you can use it for that if you want to, just be very careful…
