Player Shells

by Ultramega

Player Shells lets a player keep several bodies, each with its own inventory, experience level and game mode, and move the mind between them.

NeoForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

Shells are built at a Shell Forge, and a new Shell is created at the forge by shift-right-clicking it. Creating one consumes 64 DNA, which a DNA Centrifuge produces from blood-filled syringes; the centrifuge needs 1,000,000 FE and takes about 10 minutes per run, both configurable. Syringes are filled by right-clicking them with an empty syringe, which costs the player 4 hearts.

Once a second Shell Forge is built, a mind can be transferred between Shells. Right-clicking a Shell Forge without sneaking opens a radial menu for choosing the Shell to move into. Transfers also work across dimensions. If the player dies, the mind moves automatically to the nearest available Shell, which grants an extra life even in Hardcore.

Every player and the server need a copy of the mod. Player Shells is published for NeoForge only, for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, with 0.0.11 for 1.21.1 as the latest file. It is open source under the MIT License.

Key features

  1. Shell creation

New bodies are made at a Shell Forge for 64 DNA, each with its own inventory, experience and game mode.

  2. DNA production

A DNA Centrifuge turns blood-filled syringes into DNA samples, yielding 1 to 6 samples per syringe.

  3. Mind transfer

A radial menu at a second Shell Forge moves the player's mind into any chosen Shell, across dimensions.

  4. Automatic transfer on death

When the player dies, the mind moves to the nearest available Shell, adding a life even in Hardcore.

Use cases

Who it’s for: Players who want extra bodies with separate inventories and are willing to run a DNA production chain. Server owners who want the mechanic on a multiplayer server need the mod on both sides.
