PingPing

by nolight132

PingPing lets players in a multiplayer world mark a block, mob, entity or map spot that every nearby player can see.

FabricClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source26.1 – 26.2

What it does

A middle click places a ping, and anyone within sight of it gets to see the marked spot. Its design borrows from the ping systems that modern multiplayer titles use, and it works as a compact tool for group play rather than a collection of chat commands. Line of sight is required, so a marker cannot be placed through walls. Both the server and each client need the mod for pings to work across the group.

The mod is published for Fabric only, across four release versions, 26.1 – 26.2, with 0.2.0 for 26.2 as the latest beta file. It is open source under the MIT License, and its source code is publicly available.

Key features

  1. Shared pings

A single middle click marks a spot that all nearby players can see, whether it targets a block, a mob or an entity.

  2. Direct hit priority

When several targets sit inside a small cone around the crosshair, the direct hit wins, and a far mob can still be marked with one click.

  3. Map spots

Pings can also mark a location on the map, so groups can point to places they have not yet reached.

Questions

Does PingPing need to be installed on the server?

Yes. Installation covers the server and each player's game.

Can a ping go through walls?

No. Line of sight is required, so a ping cannot mark a target that is hidden behind a wall.

What the author says

A simple multiplayer ping system for Minecraft. Ping a block, mob, entity, or just a spot on the map to be visible to nearby players. Just point, middle-click, and everyone with the mod will see it. Inspired by the ping systems found in modern multiplayer games. You do not have to be precise. A direct hit on a hitbox…
