Perch
by jolkert
Perch keeps parrots on a player's shoulders after the player moves, falls, swims or sleeps, and it lets players dismount them on purpose.
What it does
Perch changes how parrots stay on their perch. By default a parrot falls off a shoulder when the player jumps into water, flies, sleeps, stands still or enters powder snow, as the vanilla game does. Installed on the server, Perch keeps a parrot on the shoulder through these actions, and a player can make it hop down by using an empty hand on the ground or by crouching.
Because the mod runs on the server, players who join a server running it need nothing installed. Only the server owner adds it, and Fabric API is required beside it on Fabric. Perch is open source under the MIT License and is published for Fabric and NeoForge across 9 release versions, 1.19.2 – 26.3.
The project is kept current for the long-term-support release 1.21.1, which the author treats as the main target, while newer builds follow the latest Fabric version. Bugs can be reported in the public issue tracker, and the source code is publicly available.
Key features
Parrots stay on shoulders
Parrots remain on the player's shoulder through normal movement instead of dropping off when the player moves.
Dismount on demand
A parrot leaves the shoulder when a player uses an empty hand on the ground or crouches.
Vanilla dismount causes still apply
Water, flight, sleep and powder snow still knock a parrot off, so the change is limited to ordinary movement.
Server-side behavior
The change runs on the server, so players without the mod can still join and use it.

Use cases
Who it’s for: Server owners and modpack builders who want parrots to stay on the player's shoulder, and players who join such servers, where the mod needs no client-side installation.
How it compares
Companion is server-side only and covers Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt for 1.18.2 – 26.1.2, but it is not open source and its license is All rights reserved. Vibrant Parrots runs on client and server for Fabric and NeoForge across 1.21.1 – 26.3 and is open source under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, so both sides must install it. Realistic Bird Behavior is a NeoForge-only client and server mod for 1.21.1 under the MIT License.

What the author says
Perch is a simple mod that simply makes entities (i.e. parrots) not fall off your shoulder when you fall down. All other vanilla causes of parrots dismounting still apply, so touching water, flying, sleeping, and standing in powder snow will still cause parrots to dismount. Additionally, you can now also force them…
