One Slot at a Time
by dannytaylor
One Slot at a Time removes the hotbar lock, so a player can hold a single slot in one hand and use it freely.
What it does
Normally a hotbar item forces its slot to stay in use. This mod lifts that restriction, letting an item be used from one slot while the other slots remain free. Builds exist for Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt, targeting 1.21 and 1.21.1, with 1.0.2 for 1.21.1 as the latest file.
Players can run the mod on their own without any other mod installed. It runs on client and server together, so both the server and every player need it, and the code is licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later, making it open source. Source code and an issue tracker are publicly available.
Key features
Free single-slot use
A hotbar slot holding an item can be used without locking the rest of the hotbar in place.
Hotbar restriction removed
The forced-use behavior that ties the hand to one slot is removed for the hotbar.
Public source and tracker
The source code and issue tracker are published, so changes and bug reports can be followed openly.

Use cases
Speedrun and showcase play
A player demonstrating a mechanic or running a speedrun can switch items more freely with one hand.
Experimental play
Players who want an unusual hotbar setup can test one-handed item use in a world.
Who it’s for: Players who want to change how hotbar slots work, and server owners who want every player on a server to have the same hotbar behavior, since the mod must be installed on both sides.
