Oh My Gourd!

by KingLemming

Oh Gourd, this mod adds 24 new face variants for Carved Pumpkin and Jack o'Lantern blocks, changed by using Shears on them in the world.

ForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.16.5 – 1.20.1

What it does

Using Shears on a standard pumpkin or lantern block switches it to one of the new variants, and repeated use with Shears cycles through the faces. Shears lose no durability in the process. Sneaking while using Shears steps back one carving, so a player who overshoots a face can return to the previous one.

The mod is aimed at decoration builds that need many pumpkin faces, from harvest scenes to themed rooms. Its settings live in two TOML files: omgourd-client.toml in the config folder, and omgourd-server.toml, which sits in the serverconfigs folder of a world. Copying the server file into defaultconfigs applies those settings to every newly created world, and dedicated servers keep theirs in the world's serverconfigs folder.

The mod requires CoFH Core, which must be installed alongside it. It runs on Forge, and the environment is client and server, so the server and every player need it. Forge files cover 1.16.5, 1.18.2, 1.19.2 and 1.20.1, with 5.0.0 for 1.20.1 as the latest file, published on 2023-12-20. The code is under All rights reserved, so the mod is not open source.

Key features

  1. Shears-based face changes

Right-clicking a pumpkin or lantern with Shears changes its face to a new variant.

  2. 24 new variants

The mod adds 24 new face designs for both Carved Pumpkin and Jack o'Lantern blocks.

  3. Reverse carving with sneak

Sneaking while using Shears moves the block back one carving, which corrects an accidental change.

  4. Durability-free Shears

Carving with Shears uses no durability, so repeated changes do not wear the tool down.

  5. Configurable defaults

Client and server TOML files control the settings, and a copy in defaultconfigs applies them to new worlds.

Use cases

Themed pumpkin displays

Builders can arrange many differently carved pumpkins in a harvest or Halloween scene without crafting each face separately.

Dedicated server setup

Server owners can place the server configuration file in the world's serverconfigs folder to control the mod on their server.

Who it’s for: The mod suits players who build with pumpkins and want a wider set of faces than vanilla offers. Builders who only use the default carved pumpkin may not need it.
