Not Enough Experience

by NotSoTedious

Not Enough Experience changes how much experience players receive from mining ores, killing mobs and throwing enchanting bottles, using configurable multipliers.

FabricForgeNeoForgeServer-side onlyAll rights reserved1.16.5 – 1.20.1

What it does

Each experience source gets its own multiplier, so a server owner can raise or lower the yield from ore mining, mob kills and thrown enchanting bottles. Edits are made in the server config file, and the config can also be changed in-game. A global modifier can be turned on to apply one multiplier to every source, or turned off so the individual modifiers take effect instead.

The mod runs on the server only, so players join without installing anything. It is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across six game versions, 1.16.5 – 1.20.1, and can be used alongside other mods without any being required. The license is All rights reserved, so the code is not open source. Public links exist for an issue tracker and a wiki, which describe how to locate and open the config file.

Key features

  1. Ore mining multiplier

Experience gained from mining ores can be scaled up or down with a dedicated multiplier.

  2. Mob kill multiplier

The experience dropped by killed mobs has its own multiplier, separate from the other sources.

  3. Enchanting bottle multiplier

Experience from thrown enchanting bottles is adjustable through its own setting.

  4. Global or individual modifiers

A single global modifier can replace the per-source multipliers, or each source can be tuned on its own.

  5. In-game config editing

The configuration can be edited in-game as well as in the server config file.

Use cases

Tuning progression on a server

A server owner can slow or speed up levelling by changing the multipliers for each experience source to fit the pace of the world.

Who it’s for: Server owners who want to change how fast players gain experience from specific activities, without editing code.

How it compares

Full comparison

Altered Damage is server-side only and works on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt for 1.16.5 – 26.3, but it changes damage rather than experience. Configurable Furnace Burn Time is also server-side only and published for the same loaders and range, under All rights reserved, and it targets furnace burn times instead. XP Config is server-side only and open source under the Apache License 2.0, but it is published for NeoForge alone, for 1.21.1 – 1.21.10.

What the author says

These mods arent required, but I think they pair really well with this mod. The multipliers can be edited in the server config file. Scroll down to see the "Locating the Config File" section if your having trouble finding it.
