Mod Name Tooltips [Fabric]

by vladmarica

Mod Name Tooltips shows the name of the mod that added each item in the item tooltip, which helps players tell similar items apart.

What it does

Item tooltips in the game normally do not say which mod an item comes from. This mod adds that line, so a player hovering over an item can see its source mod. The project was made because no Fabric equivalent of a similar Forge mod could be found, and it was written from scratch for Fabric.

Only the client needs the mod, so servers run without it and players can join a server that does not have it installed. The code is open source under the MIT License, and builds cover 1.19.2 – 1.20.1 with 1.20.1+0.1.0 as the latest Fabric file.

Key features

  1. Source mod name in tooltips

Each item tooltip gains a line with the name of the mod that registered the item.

  2. Client-side display

The name is drawn only on the player's screen, so no change reaches the server or other players.

  3. Lightweight design

The mod does one thing, adding a line to tooltips, and adds no items, blocks or commands.

What the author says

A Fabric mod for Minecraft that simply adds mod names to item tooltips. Inspired by mezz's similar mod for Forge. I couldn't find an equivalent for Fabric, so I made my own.
