Mob Filter
by pcal43
With Mob Filter installed on a server, administrators decide which mobs may spawn, where and under what conditions, through two config files.
What it does
Mob Filter runs only on the server and checks each attempted mob spawn against a set of rules the owner writes. If a rule matches, the spawn is vetoed. The first launch with the mod creates two empty files in the config directory: mobfilter.simple for plain lists of mob identifiers to block, and mobfilter.json5 for more detailed logic.
Simple filtering in mobfilter.simple covers removing a few mobs, or whole namespaces through wildcards and negations. The advanced file tests conditions such as block position, location (biome, world, dimension, block identifier), mob type (entity identifier or spawn group), time of day, light level and phase of the moon, which lets a rule keep hostile mobs out of one area while leaving the rest of the world alone. Fabric API is required on Fabric, and the mod is published for Fabric and NeoForge across 28 release versions, 1.18 – 26.3.
Key features
Block specific mobs
A plain list of mob identifiers in mobfilter.simple stops those mobs from spawning anywhere in the world.
Wildcards and negations
Entries can cover all mobs in a namespace, with exceptions carved out by negation.
Safe zones
Position-based rules keep chosen mobs out of a defined area, such as around a base.
Conditional spawn rules
Rules can depend on biome, dimension, time of day, light level, phase of the moon or spawn group.

Use cases
Mob-free base
A survival player can keep hostile mobs away from a home area while the rest of the world keeps its normal spawns.
Modpack and server tuning
Server owners can remove unwanted mobs or limit them to particular biomes and times without writing code.
Who it’s for: Server owners and players running survival worlds who want precise control over where and when mobs appear. Editing a text file is part of the setup.
