Minecraft Security

by GreedyAllay

Minecraft Security adds unbreakable blocks and keycard-based readers to Forge 1.17.1, so builders can limit who can pass through a door or open a block.

What it does

The mod adds unbreakable blocks that resist mining and do not collide with entities, along with a block that behaves like a redstone lamp but cannot be broken and offers three modes, including an always-off redstone mode. These blocks suit house building where theft is a concern, although the author notes that players carrying chorus fruit can still get past them.

Access control works through keycards. Keycards are made with the Key Card Maker, which stores a code on each card, and a reader accepts a card only when its data matches. Setup needs a right click with the keycard, and a password-based method is also described, so only people who know the code can pass. Readers are typed to accept digits only, and a card with the same NBT data activates the same reader.

Minecraft Security is a Forge mod for 1.17.1 only, with client and server installation required, so both the server and every player need it. It is released under All rights reserved, so it is not open source. The latest Forge file is 1.0.0 for 1.17.1, published on 2023-09-05.

Key features

  1. Unbreakable blocks

Several new blocks resist breaking, so a wall or door built from them cannot be removed with ordinary tools.

  2. Passable-free blocks

An unbreakable block without collisions lets players see and walk through a space while it stays protected.

  3. Redstone lamp variant

An unbreakable block works like a redstone lamp and has three modes, including an always-off redstone mode.

  4. Keycard readers

Readers open only for a keycard that carries the same code, so access is limited to chosen cards.

Use cases

Protecting a base

Builders use unbreakable blocks and keycard readers to keep a storage room or house closed to other players.

Numeric access codes

Readers accept only digits, so a code entered on a keypad can grant entry to a set of players.

Who it’s for: Players who build bases on a shared Forge server for 1.17.1 and want protected doors or storage. Server owners who need a simple access system with keycards and readers.

Questions

Does Minecraft Security need to be installed on the server?

Yes. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too.

Which game version does Minecraft Security support?

Only 1.17.1, and the only Forge file published is 1.0.0 for 1.17.1, dated 2023-09-05.

How are keycards made?

Keycards are created with the Key Card Maker, which stores a code on the card. A reader then accepts any card that carries the same data.
