Menma's Updater-Modpack Updater

by Menma736

Menma's Updater-Modpack Updater keeps a server's mod set in step with the players who join it, distributing the required mods from the server itself.

FabricForgeNeoForgeClient and serverCreative Commons Attribution Non Commercial No Derivatives 4.01.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

The mod is built on NanoHTTPD, a lightweight HTTP server that the host starts alongside the game server. Players connect to it and automatically receive the mods they need, so the modpack stays matched to the server without manual installs. Only the server administrator has to make sure port forwarding is configured correctly; the rest of the update flow runs without further setup.

The mod works with Fabric, Forge and NeoForge. The server and every player need the mod installed. Files are published for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, with a 1.0.0 release for each of the three loaders, all under a Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial No Derivatives 4.0 license. The mod is not open source.

Key features

  1. Automatic mod delivery

Players joining the server receive the required mods over the built-in HTTP file server, avoiding outdated or mismatched versions.

  2. Localhost testing

An administrator can test the mod without opening any ports by pointing the file server at localhost in the server's config.

  3. Adjustable file server port

The port used by the file server can be changed in the config file, without restarting the server for the new value to apply.

  4. Start and stop commands

The commands mupdater startFileServer and mupdater stopFileServer let administrators control the file server while the game runs.

Use cases

Who it’s for: Server administrators who manage a modpack and want players to receive updates automatically. Players benefit from the sync, but the setup work falls on the server side.

How it compares

Full comparison

World Icon Updater is a client-side only mod, open source under the MIT License, published for 1.21.1 on Fabric and NeoForge, so it does not sync a server's mod list. Sakura Updater is client and server, open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, and covers 1.20.1 – 1.21.11 on Forge and NeoForge. Menma's Updater-Modpack Updater targets the same client and server environment as Sakura Updater but is not open source and covers only 1.20.1 and 1.21.1.
