ME-Beam-Former

by GaLi

ME Beam Former lets two Applied Energistics 2 cable-bus parts facing each other across a short gap link with a visible colored beam.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverGNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

Two Beam Former parts can be connected across a gap of up to 32 blocks, which bridges AE2 network nodes without running extra cable. The beam is drawn in real time and takes the color of the cable it links, so each connection can be read at a glance. Beams are blocked by solid parts and collisions, and a beam disconnects automatically when its path becomes obstructed.

The mod is an addon for Applied Energistics 2. Links are made through the AE2 grid, which uses the mod's own ticking and connection logic, so a linked pair behaves as part of the same network. Rendering is kept light and uses emissive visuals, so the beams stay visible without a heavy cost to frame rate. Files target Forge and NeoForge only, and the client and server both need the mod, which is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only and is open source.

Key features

  1. Long-range node links

Two parts facing each other connect across a gap of up to 32 blocks.

  2. Colored beams

Each beam inherits the color of the cable it connects, so network links are simple to tell apart.

  3. Quick visibility toggle

Shift with right-click hides or shows the beam of a single pair without breaking the link.

  4. Automatic disconnection

A beam drops when a block or part sits in its path and reconnects once the path is clear.

Use cases

Crossing a short gap

A base split by a river or a narrow chasm can join its AE2 networks with a single beam instead of a longer cable run.

Who it’s for: Players who run Applied Energistics 2 networks in survival or on servers, and who want clean visual links between nodes placed a few blocks apart.

How it compares

Full comparison

AE Wireless Transceiver is an AE2 addon for Forge and NeoForge that works with versions 1.20.1 – 26.1.2, released under the MIT License and open source. ME Placement Tool is also open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only and covers 1.20.1 – 26.1.2, but it helps place AE2 parts rather than link them with beams. AE2: Better Villagers is a Fabric, Forge and NeoForge mod for 1.20.1 – 1.21.1 that changes villagers instead of network connections.
