McMouser

by ViRb3

McMouser is a client-side mod that fixes several mouse input bugs on macOS, including Shift + Scroll and the side buttons on older versions.

What it does

On macOS, the mod corrects mouse behavior that the game gets wrong on Apple hardware. For game versions 1.20.2 and later, Shift + Scroll is made to work, so horizontal scrolling in menus and hotbars responds as expected. For older game versions, the mouse side buttons are also handled correctly. A third change disables the emulation that turns Ctrl + Left Click into a right click, so that combination behaves as a plain left click.

The mod covers 43 release versions across Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Legacy Fabric, spanning 1.7.10 – 26.2. Builds exist for both arm64 (M1) and amd64 (x64, Intel) Macs. Only the player's own client needs the mod, since it changes input handling on the machine running the game and nothing on a server. It is released under the MIT License and the source code is public, with an issue tracker for reports.

Key features

  1. Scrolling in menus and hotbars

Lets Shift + Scroll register on macOS, so horizontal scrolling in menus and hotbars responds as expected.

  2. Mouse side buttons

Makes the mouse side buttons respond in the older game versions the mod supports.

  3. Ctrl + Left Click handling

Turns off the Ctrl + Left Click to right click emulation that macOS mice otherwise trigger.
