MapStitch
by pajic
MapStitch turns vanilla maps into a world map and minimap by letting players collect filled maps into an atlas item.
What it does
Players craft an atlas that stores empty and filled maps, sized to the matching scale, up to 16384 items in total; the cap can be changed through a game rule. Filled maps added to an atlas stitch together into a world map, and an atlas opens the world map when the player presses M or right-clicks while holding it. Maps used to create an atlas are consumed, and filled maps can enter unmapped areas as they are gathered.
A compass anywhere in the inventory, with an atlas in the hotbar or hands, displays a minimap that shows the map under the player along with a player marker, coordinates, a grid overlay, real-time game time, the biome and the weather; each of these is toggleable and the minimap is disabled by default. Enabling the client option alone is not enough, the server-side setting also has to be switched on. Fzzy Config and Fabric API are both required, and the mod is published for Fabric and NeoForge.
Key features
Atlas item
The atlas works like a bundle and holds empty maps and filled maps of matching scale, so vanilla maps become easier to store and manage.
Minimap display
With multiple atlases present, the minimap uses the atlas in hands first, otherwise the first atlas in the inventory.
Globetrotter enchantment
An atlas enchanted with Globetrotter consumes paper instead of creating new empty maps, and the enchantment is found only in stronghold library chests.
Treasure map marking
An explorer map or buried treasure map added to an atlas shows its target marker on the world map.
Scroll ejection
Scrolling while hovering over an atlas switches between ejecting filled or empty maps first.
Curios and Trinkets
An accessory slot through the Trinkets or Curios API can equip one atlas, which is then prioritized for the minimap.

What the author says
This mod adds a world map and a minimap using vanilla maps and makes vanilla maps cheaper and easier to manage by using the new Atlas item. Unlike other world map/minimap mods which ignore vanilla maps and make them obsolete, MapStitch makes them much more enjoyable to use and turns them into a core part of the world…
