Map Zones

by anonymous123-code

Map Zones lets server owners define configurable zones in the world, with events that run commands when an entity enters, stays in, or leaves a zone.

QuiltClient and serverGNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 onlyOpen source1.19.3 – 1.20.1

What it does

Zones are made in-game. A zone is outlined by placing corners, which can later be edited, and the zone wrench deletes or configures an existing zone. Each zone carries tags and event settings, so the same region can trigger different commands for different entities. Events fire once when an entity enters, on every tick while it stays inside, and once more when it leaves.

The mod is aimed at server owners who want to script areas of a map, such as arenas, spawn regions or hazard fields, without writing a datapack. Commands tied to a zone event run with the triggering entity in context. Creative players can take the zone items from the Operator creative tab, and their tooltips describe each item's function.

Map Zones requires Quilted Fabric API (QFAPI) or Quilt Standard Libraries (QSL) and oωo (owo-lib). Lucko's fabric-permission-api is embedded in the mod. Every player and the server need a copy of the mod. Files are published for Quilt, for 1.19.3 and 1.20.1, and the latest file is 0.0.5+1.20.1 for 1.20.1, released 2023-08-06. The code is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 only.

Key features

  1. Configurable zone mapmaking

Zones are defined in the world with corners, and each one can be edited later or removed with the zone wrench.

  2. Enter, tick and leave events

Commands can run once when an entity enters a zone, on every tick while it is inside, and once when it leaves.

  3. Zone tags

Tags attached to a zone let the same region carry different event behavior for different entities.

  4. Zone items in the Operator tab

The zone corner and zone wrench are found in the Operator creative tab, with tooltips describing each one.

Use cases

Arenas and minigames

Event commands can start a round when players enter an arena zone and end it when they leave, using the same region on each pass.

Hazard regions

A zone can apply a repeating command on each tick while an entity remains inside, for example to mark a dangerous area.

Who it’s for: Server owners and map makers who want command-driven regions on a Quilt server. Players only need the mod on the server side and no extra setup to join.

Questions

Does Map Zones need Quilted Fabric API to run?

Yes. It requires Quilted Fabric API (QFAPI) or Quilt Standard Libraries (QSL), and oωo (owo-lib) as well.

Do players have to install Map Zones?

Every player and the server need a copy of the mod. Lucko's fabric-permission-api is embedded and needs no separate install.

What happens if an entity leaves and re-enters a zone?

Each entry produces one enter event and each exit one leave event. Teleporting across dimensions or changing a zone's size still triggers the leave event, so commands tied to leaving run reliably.
