MacOS Input Fixes

by hamarb123

MacOS Input Fixes corrects several keyboard and mouse input problems that appear on macOS in Minecraft Java Edition.

FabricClient-side onlyBSD 3-Clause LicenseOpen source1.14 – 26.3

What it does

Scroll handling is the main focus. Trackpad scrolling no longer moves a huge number of items at once, momentum scrolling no longer changes how far a list moves, and scroll events only count while fingers rest on the trackpad or on a supported Apple input device. Scrolling while shift is held also works on some older mice where it was broken.

Other fixes cover keys that did not register on macOS. Left click combined with control now counts as a left click instead of a right click, control with tab and control with escape are detected, and dropping an item accepts either control or command with the drop key, where the default Q key previously expected only command. Inertial scrolling in interfaces is restored.

The mod runs on the client only, so servers do not need it and players can add it without changing anything on the server. Outside macOS it does nothing beyond its menu options, so it can stay installed in any modpack. It requires Fabric Loader 0.18.5 or newer and is published for Fabric alone, with release builds for 48 game versions and snapshot builds included. The code is released under the BSD 3-Clause License and is open source; the source code and issue tracker are public.

Key features

  1. Control-click detection

Left click is registered correctly while control is held, so it no longer opens the right-click action.

  2. Scroll speed limit

Trackpad scrolling stops jumping across an excessive number of items in a single gesture.

  3. Momentum scroll correction

Scroll events from momentum are filtered so a quick flick does not skip past the intended item.

  4. Modifier key fixes

Control with tab and control with escape are detected, and the drop key accepts control or command.

Use cases

Trackpad browsing

Players scrolling long inventories, creative menus or world lists on a MacBook trackpad get steadier, more predictable movement.

Keyboard shortcuts on macOS

Players who rely on control-based key combinations see them registered as intended in Minecraft.

Who it’s for: Players on macOS who use a trackpad or a mouse, and modpack makers who want a harmless input fix on every system.

How it compares

Full comparison

Faster Scrolling works on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt across 1.14 – 26.3, is client-side only and is open source under the MIT License, but it adjusts scrolling speed rather than fixing macOS key detection. Global Options is an open source Fabric mod under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later, covering 1.14.4 – 1.21.11, with the same client-side environment; it is a settings mod, not an input fix.

No required dependency is listed for Fabric.

Do servers need to install MacOS Input Fixes?

No. Servers do not need it; each player installs it for their own game.

Does the mod change anything outside macOS?

Outside macOS the mod does nothing except its menu options, so it can remain installed in any setup without side effects.

Why does the launcher show an error after installing?

The author notes that an older Fabric Launcher may need an update to version 0.18.5 or newer, after which the mod can be removed and re-added.
