Hero's Elytra Optimizer

by herobane

Hero's Elytra Optimizer makes a glider stop flying once the elytra is taken off, fixing a long standing bug in how the game handles elytra flight.

FabricClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.20 – 1.21.11

What it does

Before this fix, removing an elytra from the chest slot could leave a player still gliding through the air. The mod corrects that behavior so flight ends as soon as the elytra is no longer worn. It is an optimization with a single purpose and adds no new items, blocks or menus.

The mod is installed by placing the file in the Minecraft mods folder, and it needs Fabric API alongside it. Only the player's game needs it, and servers run without it. Files cover 13 release versions, 1.20 – 1.21.11, and the code is open source under the MIT License.

Key features

  1. Stops flight after removal

Taking off the elytra ends gliding at once, rather than letting the player keep flying without wearing one.

  2. Single-purpose fix

The change targets only the elytra flight state and leaves the rest of the glider behavior untouched.

  3. Glide state check

Each tick the mod checks whether an elytra is still worn, and cancels gliding when it is not.

  4. Flight cleanup on removal

Once the chest slot is empty, the player's flying state is cleared so movement returns to normal walking or falling.

Use cases

Single-player survival

A player who swaps elytras or takes one off mid-flight gets consistent movement without restarting the world.

Modded flight items

Players using other flight tools should check compatibility, since the fix stops gliding whenever no elytra is worn.

Who it’s for: Players on Fabric who fly with elytras and want flight to end when the elytra is removed. It suits single-player worlds and clients joining servers that allow client mods.

Questions

Does Hero's Elytra Optimizer need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API must be installed next to the mod, as the mod is published for Fabric only.

Does the server need the mod?

No. Players add it to their own game, and a server needs no copy.

Which game versions does the mod support?

Files cover 13 release versions, 1.20 – 1.21.11, with 4.5.0-21.11 for 1.21.11 as the latest file.

Can it conflict with modded flying items?

Possibly. The fix stops gliding whenever no elytra is worn, so modded items that grant flight without one may behave differently.

In the catalog

Hero's Elytra Optimizer is one of 3,545 Optimization mods on ModsFinder, and one of 2,575 Optimization mods for Fabric. 19,862 mods support Minecraft 1.21.11.
