Lootr Bigger Chest

by Fallen__leaf

Lootr Bigger Chest is a Forge utility that enlarges the inventories of Lootr containers beyond the default 27 slots.

ForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1 – 1.20.6

What it does

Lootr chests hold 27 slots by default, which can feel small in modpacks where loot tables produce hundreds of items. This mod lets the server owner set a custom row and column count for each container type, with rows from 1 to 20 and columns from 1 to 32. Lootr containers covered by the mod include chests, barrels, shulker boxes and chest minecarts, and each type can be configured on its own.

Sizes can be fixed for every container, or chosen at random from a weighted pool, which makes each dungeon container a little less predictable. Container dimensions are saved in NBT when the container is first opened, so a container keeps its size across world reloads. A scrollable screen with nine columns adapts to the configured size.

The mod is published for Forge across the game versions listed on its page, and it requires Lootr 0.7.34 or newer. It runs on the client and the server, so both sides need it. The code is open source under the MIT License.

Key features

  1. Configurable container sizes

Rows and columns can be set for each Lootr container type, within the limits of 1 to 20 rows and 1 to 32 columns.

  2. Weighted random sizes

Several sizes can be assigned to a container type with weights, so each container may open with a different capacity.

  3. Fixed size mode

A single size can be applied to every container when a consistent capacity is preferred over random sizes.

  4. Persistent dimensions

A container's size is stored when it is first opened and remains the same after the world is reloaded.

How it compares

Column-Quick-Swap is a Forge utility for 1.20.1 – 1.20.6 under the MIT License, but it is not open source and does not change container sizes. Shared Lootr works across Fabric, Forge and NeoForge for 1.12.2 – 26.2 under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later and is open source, and it addresses shared loot rather than container size.

Questions

Does Lootr Bigger Chest need Lootr?

Yes. The mod requires Lootr 0.7.34 or newer, so Lootr must be installed alongside it on Forge.

Must the server and players both install it?

Yes. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too.

Can container sizes vary between chests?

Yes. Weighted random pools let a container type use several sizes, and fixed size mode applies one size to every container instead.

Which Minecraft versions are supported?

Files exist for 1.20.1, 1.20.2, 1.20.3, 1.20.4, 1.20.5 and 1.20.6. The latest Forge file is 1.0.2 for 1.20.6, published on 2026-09-09.

What the author says

Expands all Lootr container inventories beyond the default 27 slots (3x9). If you feel the standard 27-slot Lootr chests are too limiting -- especially in modpacks with hundreds of items -- this mod lets you freely expand them. The random size system also adds an element of surprise to dungeon exploration.
