Living Item
by 777hi
Living Item lets items in inventories keep running, so a furnace, hopper or brewing stand inside a container keeps working after the player leaves.
What it does
A living item keeps its state with the item itself, including progress, fuel and settings, and that state follows it across containers, dimensions and saves. Chests, backpacks and other supported containers can hold these items, and the logic continues while they sit there. The mod covers processing blocks such as the living furnace, brewing stand and flint and steel, logistics blocks such as the living hopper, chest and ender chest with a wireless router, and fluids that sustain a network inside containers.
The mod also adds living redstone parts including dust, torches, levers, buttons, lamps, repeaters and comparators, plus living copper and waxed copper, and living tools, weapons and TNT, which remember actions and replay them. The server and every player need the mod installed. Files are published for NeoForge 1.21.1 under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later, and the project is open source.
Key features
Stateful processing blocks
Living furnaces smelt, living hoppers move items and living brewing stands brew while the items sit in a container.
Logistics blocks
Living hoppers, chests and ender chests with a wireless router move items between containers without the player present.
Living redstone circuits
Redstone dust, torches, levers, buttons, lamps, repeaters and comparators keep their state and run circuits on their own.
Replaying tools and weapons
Living tools and weapons remember the actions they perform and replay them, and living TNT does the same.

Use cases
Automated storage
A chest or backpack holding living furnaces and hoppers keeps processing items while the player explores elsewhere.
Who it’s for: Players building automated setups in survival worlds, and server owners who want container-based machines to keep running between visits.
How it compares
Quick Stack Inventory is client and server, open source under the MIT License and built for NeoForge 1.21.1, but it moves items between storage rather than keeping them processing. YetAnotherBackpackMod is also client and server and built for 1.21.1, yet it is not open source and is released under All rights reserved. Create Backpack Upgrades is open source as no, under the MIT License, and covers backpack upgrades on the same version.

Its state is saved on the item itself, so progress, fuel and settings follow it anywhere. Can I put it in my modpack? Yes — just credit the…
