Crawl
by Diesse
Crawl lets players drop into a one-block-high crawl when they press Shift in front of a narrow opening, so tight tunnels can be passed without digging.
What it does
When a player walks into a space whose minimum height is too low to stand, the mod switches the player into a crawl stance automatically. Movement adjusts so the character can glide forward through narrow passages instead of being blocked by the ceiling. The control is meant to stay simple: a player presses Shift in front of a one by one opening and the rest follows without any extra keys to learn.
Crawl is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and also as a data pack for server platforms. Its five release versions cover 1.21 – 1.21.4, and the latest file for every loader is 0.1+mod for 1.21.4, dated 2025-01-10. A server must run the mod, while players may leave it out and still join. The mod is released under the CC0 1.0 Universal license and is not open source.
Key features
Automatic crawl mode
Entering a space too low to stand in switches the player into crawl mode without a separate key.
Shift-to-crawl control
Pressing Shift in front of a one by one opening starts the crawl, keeping the controls close to standard sneaking.
Smooth movement
The character moves through narrow passages at a lowered height, with the camera and motion adjusted to match.
Narrow route design
Passages that were previously closed off can now be explored, which supports secret bases and tight cave routes.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Exploring narrow caves
Players can follow passages only a block high and reach areas that standing movement cannot enter.
Hidden bases and routes
Builders can place rooms behind one by one openings that only crawling players can reach.
Who it’s for: Players who want more routes through cave systems and builds, and server owners who want those routes available to every player on their server.
How it compares
GetDown is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, runs on client and server, and covers 1.21 – 1.21.9 on Fabric and Quilt, which overlaps Crawl's versions. QoL Refined is a client-side only Fabric mod under the MIT License for 1.21 – 1.21.11, so it runs without any server install. Advanced Mobility Mechanics is server required and client optional under All rights reserved, with Fabric files only for 1.21.4 – 1.21.8.
