Legacy Itemmodels
by pitan76
Legacy Itemmodels is a client-side utility that generates missing item asset files at runtime for older mods on Minecraft 1.21.4 and later.
What it does
Starting with Minecraft 1.21.4, a mod must ship an item asset JSON file in an assets folder for each of its items, and many older mods only provide models without those files. Legacy Itemmodels fills the gap by generating the missing item asset files while the game loads, so those mods can keep working without any manual edits to their resources.
Pack creators and developers who want to keep older content compatible with 1.21.4 and later can rely on the mod instead of rewriting item definitions by hand. It is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, and the files cover 12 release versions 1.21.4 – 26.2, with 26.2 as the newest Fabric build. Only the client needs it, and it is released under the MIT License, so the project is open source with public source code and an issue tracker.

Use cases
Keeping older mods running
A modpack that depends on items from older mods can continue to load them on 1.21.4 and later without waiting for an updated release.
Who it’s for: Pack creators and mod developers who want to keep older content compatible with newer Minecraft versions without rewriting its item assets.
How it compares
CIT Resewn fork is a Fabric-only client mod for 1.21 – 26.2 under a MIT License, and it is not open source. Pause Screen Tweaks is a Fabric-only client mod for 26.2 that is not open source and is released under All rights reserved, so it covers a different job from item asset generation.
