Legacy Mechanics
Legacy Mechanics brings back console-era quirks, from enchanted golden apples and smeltable sand to reduced vindicator damage and halved phantom health.
What it does
Players who want the feel of console-era Minecraft can use Legacy Mechanics to restore a set of older mob behaviors and item quirks. Its changes include Fortune melons that yield as many as 10 slices under the highest Fortune enchantment, craftable enchanted golden apples made from 8 gold blocks and an apple, and sand and red sand that can be smelted in blast furnaces.
The server must run the mod, while clients may leave it out. Players who join a server running it see the restored behavior without installing anything, and a client install adds to the experience. The mod is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and a data pack version also exists. Builds cover 1.21 – 26.1.2 across 15 release versions, and the latest file is 1.1.0+mod for 26.1.2, released 2025-10-30 on the beta channel. Legacy Mechanics: Addon is an optional dependency, and the code is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution Share Alike 4.0 license, so the project is not open source.
Key features
Restored console achievements
Legacy console achievements return, so progress is tracked in the style of the console editions.
Craftable enchanted golden apples
Enchanted golden apples can be crafted from 8 gold blocks and one apple, instead of being found only in chests.
Fortune melon drops
Melons yield up to 10 slices when broken with Fortune III, a change from the modern drop rate.

Sand and red sand smelt in blast furnaces, reproducing an older console-era recipe.
Adjusted mob behavior
Phantoms have half their normal health, and vindicators deal reduced damage, matching console values.

How it compares
Nostalgic Fishing is an MIT-licensed open source mod for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, covering rd-132211 – 26.2 with a server-required environment, so it targets fishing rather than the wider set of console quirks. Tutorial Worlds Legacy Console Edition is server-side only, published under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only for 1.20.1 – 26.2 on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, and it adds tutorial worlds instead of mechanics. Console Sounds is client-side only and Fabric-only, with MIT License and open source status, covering 1.19.3 – 1.21.11.
