Laminar
by Izumi17-mc
Laminar is a Fabric optimization mod that spreads mob AI work across distance zones and can hand some CPU tasks to an integrated GPU.
What it does
Laminar reduces the cost of mob artificial intelligence by running it at different rates depending on how close each mob is to a player. Mobs with an active target update at 20 ticks per second, mobs within 10 blocks of a player keep full speed for combat, nearby idle mobs run at 5 ticks per second, and mobs more than 24 blocks away run at a much lower rate. Mobs register for updates through event hooks instead of relying on repeated world scans, and their ticks are staggered across frames by UUID so that work does not spike in a single tick.
The mod can also offload computationally intensive tasks such as pathfinding, acoustics and line-of-sight checks to an integrated graphics processor through OpenCL pipelines, which the author says helps keep server tick rates steady. The author lists Intel HD and UHD Graphics and AMD Radeon Graphics as tested hardware. Laminar depends on Fabric API and is published for Fabric only, for 26.1 – 26.2.
Laminar is not open source. Its license is All rights reserved. Either side can run it, and neither needs it. Files cover 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2 and 26.2, with 1.3.1+26.2 as the latest build, dated 2026-07-06.
Key features
Distance-based AI tiers
Mobs are sorted into four zones by distance to players, and each zone runs its AI at a different tick rate.
Close combat priority
Mobs within 10 blocks of a player keep 20 ticks per second, so aggro and combat responses stay prompt.
Event-driven target registry
Mobs register for updates through hooks, which reduces the number of world scans needed each tick.
Momentum and state resets
When a target is lost, for example after a switch to creative mode or a 48-block sweep, the mob's velocity, navigation path and aggressive state are cleared.

How it compares
GPU servers is server-side only, requires Fabric and is published under All rights reserved for 1.21.8 – 1.21.11. No Idle Animation works on the client alone, is open source under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 only and covers 1.21.11 – 26.2. Vanilla+ TPS is server required with optional client, under All rights reserved, and covers 1.20 – 26.3. Laminar differs from all of these in its 26.1 – 26.2 range and in being usable on either side.
