KS Biomes

by nugrevan

KS Biomes adds six new biomes to world generation: Calcite Cliff, Coral Graveyard, Prismarine Forest, Fungal Cavern, Burning Dark and Frozen Dark.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltServer required, client optionalMIT License1.21.11 – 26.2

What it does

Calcite Cliff appears as a cliff above the ocean and is built from calcite. Coral Graveyard is a rare variation of warm ocean where a coral reef is dying, and only a handful of coral blocks remain alive.

Fungal Cavern generates underground where humidity is high, with a mycelium floor covered in mushrooms, some of them large enough to emit light. Mycelium blocks there keep ores from generating, so mining the cave is safe. Burning Dark and Frozen Dark are two variations of the deep dark: the first is filled with magma patches and is rare, and the second replaces deepslate with ice. Both add no extra sculk underground beyond what the deep dark already generates.

KS Biomes is a server-required mod, so the server must run it, while players may add it on the client. It is distributed as a data pack as well as a mod for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt. Builds cover 1.21.11 – 26.2, with 26.2 as the latest version, and the code is released under the MIT License without being open source. The author notes further biomes are planned.

Key features

  1. Six new biomes

Calcite Cliff, Coral Graveyard, Prismarine Forest, Fungal Cavern, Burning Dark and Frozen Dark are added to generation.

  2. Coral and prismarine variations

Coral Graveyard replaces parts of warm oceans, and Prismarine Forest appears in deep cold oceans near mushroom islands.

  3. Fungal cave with light

Fungal Cavern is a mushroom-covered underground biome where some huge mushrooms emit light and ores do not generate.

  4. Deep dark variations

Burning Dark and Frozen Dark change the deep dark, one with magma patches and one with ice in place of deepslate.

Questions

Does KS Biomes need to be installed on the client?

No. Only the server must run the mod, and players may add it on their own side, but joining without it is allowed. Either way, the server is the side that has to have it.

Which loaders does KS Biomes support?

KS Biomes has files for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and is also available as a data pack for servers.

Will the new biomes change existing worlds?

The biomes are part of world generation, so they appear in newly generated chunks. The author notes further biomes are planned for later releases.

What the author says

This biome will appear when a cliff is above an ocean, making this amazing looking calcite cliff. This rare biome is a variation of the warm ocean, it will generate a dying coral reef, with only a few blocks of living coral left.
