JPG Screenshot
by spiralhalo
JPG Screenshot saves captures as JPG files instead of the default lossless format Minecraft writes, which cuts the size of each screenshot considerably.
What it does
Minecraft stores each screenshot as a lossless file of about 2 MB at 1080p. JPG Screenshot changes the output to JPG, where the author reports a reduction of roughly 80 percent and a file near 400 KB that looks almost the same at high quality. Players who take many captures and have limited disk space are the intended group.
Saving a JPG takes slightly longer than saving the default file, although the capture itself is still instant. Taking many screenshots in quick succession can cause the game to stutter. The JPG quality setting is lower than the default output, so fine detail may be affected at lower quality values.
The mod runs on the client only, so a server does not need it and players can join without installing it. It is published for Fabric and Quilt. Fabric files cover 1.17 – 26.1.1 in 14 release versions, with 2.0.0 for 26.1.1 as the latest, and Quilt has 1.0.4 for 1.20.1. Snapshot builds are also published. The code is licensed under CC0 1.0 Universal and is open source.
Key features
JPG output
Screenshots are written as JPG files, which the author describes as about 80 percent smaller than the default output.
Adjustable keybinding
The capture key can be changed in the game's Key Binds settings; version 2.0.0 changed the default modifier from Left Alt to Left Control.
Lower JPG quality
JPG compression trades some detail for file size, so images are not as sharp as the default lossless output.

Use cases
Heavy screenshot use
Players who capture many images in a session and want to keep disk usage down can save each one at a fraction of the usual size.
Who it’s for: Players who take many screenshots and do not want to buy more storage. Only the client needs the mod, so it suits single-player and multiplayer players alike.
