ItemOverlayState

by AmarokIce

ItemOverlayState is a NeoForge library that lets developers define state-specific textures for items through a data-driven approach.

NeoForgeClient-side onlyGNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or laterOpen source1.21.1

What it does

Item textures usually change between states only when a developer writes code for each case. A data-driven method is supplied by this library for handling the textures that differ from state to state, letting a developer declare them in data files rather than in code. Its textures are simpler to set up than hand-coded approaches. It runs on the client alone, so players install it and servers do not need it. Builds are published for NeoForge 1.21.1 only, and the code is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later.

Key features

  1. Data-driven state textures

Item textures for different states are defined through data files rather than through code written for each case.

  2. Simpler texture setup

The approach aims to reduce the work of showing an item in several states, compared with hand-written texture logic.

  3. Developer documentation

User docs are linked from the project, describing how to set up item state textures.

What the author says

Generally speaking, only developers can handle the textures of items in different states. However, this library provides a data-driven way to manage them.
