ISB - Inventory Sorter Button

by ZeioDust

ISB - Inventory Sorter Button places a small button in the top-right corner of the inventory screen that sorts the contents of the container in one click.

FabricForgeNeoForgeClient-side onlyAll rights reserved1.16.1 – 1.21.11

What it does

Clicking the button in an open chest or inventory immediately sorts the visible slots. Items are arranged alphabetically by their registry names, and the stacks are reordered into that order without being split or merged. Only the placement of stacks inside the container changes; item data such as durability, enchantments and other stored information is left untouched.

The mod is meant to make inventories easier to organize without changing how the game works. Because the sorting logic only touches slots in the visible container, the rest of the interface is not affected. Its scope is deliberately narrow: it adds one button and one sorting rule, and nothing else. ISB is client-side only, so servers and other players do not need it, and it can be installed on Fabric, Forge or NeoForge.

Files are published for 1.16.1 – 1.21.11, with 1.0.0 as the latest build for Fabric (1.21.11), Forge (1.21.1) and NeoForge (1.21.11). The project is released under All rights reserved and is not open source.

Key features

  1. One-click sorting

A compact button near the upper right edge of the inventory window starts the sort as soon as it is clicked.

  2. Alphabetical order

Items are grouped by their registry names, giving a predictable order across every sort.

  3. Intact stacks

Item stacks are never split or merged; only their slot positions change during a sort.

  4. Data stays unchanged

Durability, enchantments and other item information are not modified, because only slot placement is altered.

Use cases

Tidying a storage chest

Players who keep mixed materials in a chest can open it and sort the contents without moving each stack by hand.

Managing a full inventory

After a long session, the player inventory can be reordered with the same button to bring similar items together.

Who it’s for: Players who want a simple way to keep chests and inventories in order, and who are happy with alphabetical sorting. The mod is a client-side addition, so it needs no setup on a server.

Questions

Does ISB need to be installed on the server?

No. Servers do not need it; each player installs it for their own game.

Will sorting change item enchantments or durability?

No. The mod only reorders slots and leaves the stored data of each item alone.

Which loaders does ISB support?

ISB has files for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, covering game versions 1.16.1 – 1.21.11.
