IG: Item Clumps

by dasikigaijin

IG: Item Clumps is a Fabric optimization mod that merges identical dropped items into virtual stacks, so large item piles stop straining the server and client.

FabricClient and serverGNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or laterOpen source1.20.1 – 26.3

What it does

Dropped item entities in vanilla Minecraft merge only up to the standard stack size of 64, so farms, quarries, tree harvesters and TNT blasts can leave thousands of separate entities on the ground. Item Clumps combines identical drops into far larger stacks, up to 9,999 items each, which cuts the number of entities the server has to tick and the client has to render. The default cap is 2,147,483,647.

The mod runs entirely on the server, so vanilla clients can join a modded dedicated server without installing anything. Floating count labels appear only above clumps large enough to matter, with a minimum count of 1,000 by default, and hoppers keep feeding items smoothly. Requires Dasik Library and Fabric API. Files are published for Fabric across six game versions, 1.20.1 – 26.3, and the project is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later.

Key features

  1. Virtual mega-stacks

Identical dropped items combine into one lightweight entity instead of many separate ones.

  2. Server-side operation

Clumping happens on the server, so vanilla clients connect without a client-side install.

  3. Adjustable game rules

The item clumps gamerule can be changed live in the Edit Game Rules menu, with effect on connected players immediately.

  4. Optional configuration screen

A graphical configuration screen, built with YetAnotherConfigLib and ModMenu, sets world defaults in singleplayer.

  5. Clump labels

Holographic count labels show only on large clumps, so smaller piles stay uncluttered.

Questions

Does Item Clumps need Dasik Library and Fabric API?

Yes. Dasik Library and Fabric API are both required, and both files must be placed in the mods folder next to Item Clumps.

Do players need to install Item Clumps?

The environment is client and server, but the mod changes only server behavior, so vanilla clients can join a modded dedicated server without getting the mod.

Can the clump size be changed on a running world?

Yes. The item clumps gamerule adjusts ground clumping rules in an active world without a restart, using the standard Minecraft gamerule commands or the Edit Game Rules menu.

What the author says

In vanilla Minecraft, dropped items merge, but they strictly cap out at a standard stack size of 64. When an automated mob farm, quarry, tree harvester, or massive TNT explosion spills thousands of items onto the ground, your game is forced to tick, track, and render dozens—or even hundreds—of individual 3D item…
