Icterine
by Mephodio
Icterine speeds up how the server checks advancements triggered by item changes in player inventories, without changing which advancements exist.
What it does
Icterine changes the InventoryChangeTrigger that vanilla uses to award advancements for obtaining items. The author reports that this trigger runs about 2.5 times faster, falling from roughly 20% of tick time to about 7.5% in a one-hour Spark test on a server with over 950 added advancements. The trigger is also fired less often: opening a container used to make the game treat every inventory slot as changed, and Icterine avoids those redundant calls.
The mod works only on the server, so players connect without installing anything. Changes to vanilla code can be switched off one by one in the config file. Icterine is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later and is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt. Its files cover 1.18.2 – 1.20.4, and the latest release, 1.3.0, is built for 1.20.4. The author notes a possible break in parity with vanilla, but states that vanilla advancements are unaffected and that any advancement can still be earned by dropping and picking up a required item.
Key features
Faster item advancement checks
The trigger that awards advancements for obtaining items runs with less server time per tick.
Skipped empty container updates
Opening a chest or furnace no longer fires triggers for every empty inventory slot.
Per-change config switches
Each change to vanilla code can be turned off separately, so a server can keep only the parts it needs.
Slot count tracking
The trigger counts empty, partly filled and full slots, data that datapack triggers can use.

Use cases
Servers with many advancements
A server running a large advancements pack can reduce the tick time spent on item-based advancement checks.
Who it’s for: Server owners running modpacks or datapacks with many item-based advancements, who want to cut the server cost of those checks.
How it compares
Cerulean Fork is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later, server-side only, and published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, but for 1.21.4 – 26.3, so it does not cover the versions Icterine targets. Cerulean is server-side only, open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, and published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 1.20 – 1.21.1, without a Quilt build. No Vanilla Advancements is not open source, is published under the MIT License for 1.19 – 1.21, and is server required with client optional.
