Hostile Mobs Improve Over Time
by KNIZE1007
Hostile Mobs Improve Over Time is a server-side difficulty mod in which hostile mobs grow stronger the longer a world is played.
What it does
The mod scales the stats and abilities of a fixed set of hostile mobs, including zombies, skeletons, creepers, pillagers, witches, endermites, guardians and piglins. Each mob follows one of 100 function files that describe the improvement at each level. Levels rise with an internal scoreboard that increments every 20 minutes, from 1 up to 100, and the strength of a mob depends on the nearest player to it.
Mobs can be kept from growing past a configurable cap, and a death relief option lowers the difficulty for players who die, but it is off by default. A config menu controls the timer, the drop chances of special level shatter shards that reduce mob levels by 1 each, and their side effects. The datapack variant works without the mod and loads loot table changes from later versions.
The server needs the mod, while players may add it for the same scaling. Builds exist for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt across 25 release versions, 1.19.4 – 26.3, and the mod is released under All rights reserved, with its source code publicly available.
Key features
Scaling hostile mobs
Listed hostile mobs gain stronger stats and new abilities as the scoreboard level rises.
Nearest-player scaling
A mob's level is taken from the closest player, and staying 32 blocks away lets a player fight a mob before it is buffed.
Configurable difficulty cap
A cap stops mobs from getting stronger than a chosen value, and negative values let a world start at a set difficulty.
Level shatter shards
Rare shards drop from mobs and lower the level by 1 each, with side effects that can be toggled in the config menu.

Use cases
Long survival worlds
Hostile threats keep rising over the course of a long world, which the timer and cap can shape.
Afk farms
Because the scaling does not require the player to be near the mobs, afkable farms keep working.
Who it’s for: Server owners who want hostile mobs to become more dangerous over time, and players who run single-player worlds with a scaled difficulty.
