Hostile Mobs

by coathier

Hostile Mobs changes how hostile mobs find and break blocks, so creepers and other enemies act on what they hear and sense through walls.

FabricServer-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1

What it does

Hostile mobs hear attack blocks while they are active. A creeper that hears a block through a wall tries a new path about 10 seconds after the default route fails, and it makes sounds while it works out the way in. Once a creeper is within one block of a targeted block, it makes up to 5 attempts to explode, and if none succeeds it explodes once, after a timer of roughly 3 seconds. Creepers that blow up walls are ordered to destroy the blocks there, and the timer before that happens is long.

The mod is server-side only, so players join a server running it without installing anything. It requires Cloth Config API and Fabric API, both of which must be present on the server. Create Fabric is an optional dependency: when Create is loaded, mobs detect spinning components and flock toward them. Hostile Mobs is published for Fabric only, for 1.20.1, with version 1.0.1 as the latest file, and is open source under the MIT License.

Key features

  1. Block-seeking hostile mobs

Hostile mobs hear attack blocks while they are active and move toward them through the terrain.

  2. Wall-breaking creepers

Creepers that blow up walls are ordered to destroy the blocks there, and they make noise while they work.

  3. Retry and explode logic

A creeper tries a new path about 10 seconds after the default, makes up to 5 attempts, and otherwise explodes once.

  4. Configurable active days

A setting chooses which days the mod is active; by default it is active for only 7 days, which suits an event built around defending valuables.

Questions

Does Hostile Mobs need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API and Cloth Config API are both required, and the mod runs on Fabric only.

Does a player need Hostile Mobs to join a server running it?

No. Server owners install it, and players connect with no copy of their own.

What does Create Fabric change?

When Create is loaded, mobs detect spinning components and flock toward them. Without Create Fabric this behavior is not added.

Which game version does Hostile Mobs support?

Files exist for 1.20.1 only, with 1.0.1 as the latest Fabric file, published on 2024-12-02.
