What it does

The client mod opens a Minecraft Wiki page for whatever the player is aiming at. The key is customizable, and the page can come from the Minecraft Wiki or from the wiki of the mod that added the object. Pressing Alt+H or Opt+H opens the page for the item in the main hand instead, and pressing B opens a search screen where pages can be looked up by name.

Hey Wiki also turns wiki syntax typed into chat into clickable links, and page names may include a namespace. Interwiki links are supported. Browsing inside the game is possible through MCBrowser and MCEF. Several commands open pages as well. A confirmation screen can be shown before a page opens, which is on by default for keybind use and off for commands, and it can copy the link to the clipboard instead. These behaviors are set in the config menu.

Support for additional wikis is added through a resource pack. The pack holds a JSON file in an assets folder that maps a namespace to a wiki family, plus a translation file for the names. Data pack and server authors can also assign a namespace and name to custom items through heywiki identifier, translation key and fallback title fields, though this applies only to custom items.

Key features

  1. Aimed-object lookup

Pressing H opens a page for the object under the crosshair, from vanilla or from a mod.

  2. Main-hand lookup

Alt+H or Opt+H opens the wiki page for the item held in the main hand.

  3. Wiki search screen

B opens a search screen where wiki pages can be found by typing in the search bar.

  4. Chat links

Wiki syntax typed in chat is replaced with a clickable link, including pages with a namespace.

  5. Confirmation prompt

Before a page opens, the player can choose to proceed or to copy the link to the clipboard.
