Happy Ghast Improvements

by iamkaf

Happy Ghast Improvements changes how Happy Ghasts sound and behave, and lets players feed them sugar, honey or Dragon's Breath for temporary speed boosts.

FabricForgeNeoForgeServer required, client optionalMIT LicenseOpen source1.21.10 – 26.3

What it does

Happy Ghasts are made quieter: their normal ambient sounds play every 36 seconds instead of every 6, and their ridden sounds play every 60 seconds instead of every 36. Feeding is handled by three items, each granting a timed speed effect that lasts 20 seconds. Sugar raises speed to 2x through Speed II, honey to 2.5x through Speed III, and Dragon's Breath to 3x through Speed IV. A sound signals when the effect expires, so the player knows when to feed the Ghast again.

The server must run the mod, while players may leave it out and still join. Files are published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, under the MIT License, and the source code is open source. Installing it requires Amber and Konfig as dependencies.

Key features

  1. Quieter Happy Ghasts

Ambient and ridden sounds occur less often, so the Ghasts are less noisy during flights.

  2. Tiered speed boosts

Sugar, honey and Dragon's Breath each grant a different level of speed for 20 seconds.

  3. Mounted feeding

Items can be used while riding a Happy Ghast, so the boost does not require dismounting.

  4. Increased reach

A rider gets one extra block of reach while mounted on a Happy Ghast.

Use cases

Long flights on a server

Who it’s for: Server owners who run Happy Ghasts for travel, and players who fly them often across large maps where a steady speed boost saves time.
