Global Settings

by Fab231

Global Settings keeps Minecraft options in sync across game instances on one PC, so a player does not have to set them again for each new instance.

What it does

On launch, the mod checks a shared settings file and copies its values into the current instance. The file holds everything found in the options.txt file, and it is only written again when a button in the mod's settings screen is pressed, so changes made in one instance carry into the others on the same machine.

The settings screen sits in the Controls tab inside the game options menu. The mod also blocks the toggle that would switch that settings menu off. Global Settings runs on the client only, and it needs Fabric API as a required dependency. Files are released for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, and the code is open source under the MIT License.

Key features

  1. Shared settings on startup

Options are copied from the shared file into each instance as the game starts, keeping instances aligned.

  2. Full options coverage

The shared file includes everything in options.txt, so the synced set matches what the game itself stores.

  3. Save on button press

The file is only rewritten when the player presses the button in the mod's settings screen, not on every change.

  4. Settings screen in Controls

The controls are placed in the Controls tab of the game options menu, and the menu cannot be toggled off.
