FTB Quests Optimizer

by bigenergy

FTB Quests Optimizer reduces lag on servers that run quests, smoothing item withdrawal and quest turn-ins without changing quest rules.

What it does

Heavy inventory scans start only when they are actually needed. Related events are merged into one delayed check, which reduces load spikes, and changes such as charge or durability updates no longer trigger unnecessary checks. Resource turn-ins withdraw items in a single pass with one progress update, which avoids stutters during item moves and quest turn-ins.

The mod is intended for server owners. It is a server-required mod with an optional client side: players can join without it, though the client can add an icon cache that makes the quest book and tips smoother. Builds exist for 1.16.5, 1.18.2, 1.19.2, 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge. The code is under the MIT License and is open source, with public links to the source and the issue tracker. The author also offers a second mod for further performance gains, which is not named here.

Key features

  1. Smarter inventory detection

Heavy scans run only when a change truly calls for one, instead of on every tick.

  2. Debounced checks

A burst of events is merged into one delayed check, which limits server load spikes.

  3. NBT noise filtering

Changes like charge or durability do not trigger a check when the item and quantity stay the same.

  4. Single-pass resource turn-in

Items are withdrawn in one pass with one progress update during quest turn-ins.

  5. Client icon cache

An optional cache on the client keeps the quest book and tips smoother to browse.

Use cases

Busy quest servers

Servers with many players turning in resources can reduce freezes during item moves.

Who it’s for: Server owners who run a quest system and want smoother quest handling. Players on those servers need no extra installation, though the client-side cache is available to them.
