FPS to the Trash
by notahero04
FPS to the Trash decouples how often the display is redrawn from the frame rate, so the screen updates at a rate set separately in the mod menu.
What it does
Redrawing the screen many times per second is costly, and the author notes that such updates can sharply lower frame rates even when the monitor cannot show more than its refresh rate. The mod separates the two, so frame rate and display update rate are handled independently. The update rate is set in the mod menu, where it can be lowered to a value the monitor actually shows.
The mod runs on the client only, so a server does not need it and players join without installing it. It is a Fabric mod, with files for 1.15 – 1.21.7 and the latest file, 1.0.2+1, built for 1.21.7 and dated 2024-11-11. The license is CC0 1.0 Universal, and the code is not open source. The author describes the effect as hardware-dependent, with larger gains on weaker machines and bottlenecked GPUs.
Key features
Decoupled display updates
Screen updates are separated from the frame rate, so the game is no longer forced to redraw at high speed.
Separate update rate setting
The rate at which the display updates is configured on its own in the mod menu, apart from the frame rate.
Performance notes from the author

Use cases
Low-end hardware
Players on laptops or mobile-class chips may gain the most, since the author notes weaker hardware sees larger uplifts.
Monitors with fixed refresh rates
Because updates can be capped to what the monitor shows, the mod suits setups where extra redraws are wasted.
Who it’s for: Players on Fabric who want to tune frame rate and screen update rate separately, especially those with modest hardware. The mod is client-side, so server owners do not need to install it.

What the author says
"FPS to the Trash" is based on a simple philosophy: Why bother updating the screen 1000 times per second, when your monitor's refresh rate is just 60 Hz? It turns out such updates are quite costly, and severely reduces the FPS. This mod fixes that problem by decoupling the display updates from the frame rate. The…
