Fps horizon adjusts render distance from the average frame rate, with smooth fog transitions while the distance changes, and it requires Sodium.

What it does

Render distance is changed automatically according to the average FPS the player is getting. Chunks load in a smoother way, holes that used to appear while moving or while changing the distance are reduced, and the mod works without pressing F3+A. Chunk retention rises as the render distance grows, and distance changes happen silently instead of reloading the world with flickering.

The client needs Sodium for the mod to load. Installation is client-side only: only the client needs it, and a server can run without it. Files are published for Forge and NeoForge, covering 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, with 1.3.0 as the latest build on each loader. The code is open source under the Apache License 2.0, and source code and an issue tracker are public.

Key features

  1. Automatic render distance

Render distance is adjusted from the average frame rate, so the view is changed without manual settings.

  2. Smooth fog transitions

Fog animates while the render distance changes, so distant chunks appear without a visible jump.

  3. Quieter chunk loading

Render distance changes happen without reloading the world, which removes the flicker that a reload causes.

  4. Retained chunks

Chunks stay loaded while the render distance grows, which reduces the holes that appear as the view extends.

What the author says

This is the first version that actually works. All previous versions (1.0.0 – 1.2.0) were alpha – unstable and full of visual holes. 💡 Have ideas to improve FPS Horizon? I'd love to hear them — leave your suggestions on GitHub!
