FoxCore

by KenRouKoro

FoxCore is a server-side library for cross-loader configuration file management, used by other tools that need one shared config layer.

What it does

Other mods and server tools built on FoxCore use it as a common framework for reading and writing configuration files across loaders. Files can be stored in TOML, which is the default, or in JSON. Server owners can edit settings through a web configurator, and the library also handles translation for server MOTD text in other languages.

The library requires Fabric API. Its functions take effect only on Fabric, NeoForge and Paper servers, and it is published for Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt on Minecraft 1.20.4, with Paper, Spigot, Bukkit, Purpur, Velocity, BungeeCord and Waterfall listed as server platforms. It runs on the server alone, so players need nothing extra to join. FoxCore is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, and its source code and issue tracker are public.

Key features

  1. Configuration file formats

Settings can be kept in TOML, the default format, or in JSON, so tools can match the format their users expect.

  2. Web configurator

A browser-based front end edits configuration files, and it can be served from a separate host that points at the server address.

  3. Shared default API

A defaults API lets dependent mods register their own default values for the configuration files they use.

Use cases

Cross-loader tool libraries

Developers of mods and server tools that run on several loaders can use one configuration layer instead of writing separate file code for each.

Server administration

Server owners can manage configuration files for installed tools from the web configurator without editing raw files by hand.

Who it’s for: Mod and plugin developers who need configuration file handling across loaders, and server owners who run tools built on the framework and want a web interface for their settings.

Questions

Does FoxCore need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API is listed as a required dependency, so it must be installed next to FoxCore on Fabric servers.

Does a player need FoxCore to join a server?

No. Players join without it, since only the server has to run the mod.

Which configuration formats does FoxCore read?

TOML is the default format, and JSON is also supported. Other formats are not named on the Modrinth page.
