Fluid Levels

by bitbeats

Fluid Levels shows water and lava level numbers above fluid blocks in the world, so players can read flow values without opening the F3 debug menu.

FabricClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1 – 1.21.11

What it does

Source blocks are marked with an S, while flowing fluids show a level from 7 down to 1, with 7 closest to the source. Falling fluids show the level value that the F3 debug menu reports for them. Other fluids can show levels 1 to 8, and the display can be switched on and off with the F7 key.

The mod is aimed at technical players who study how fluid mechanics behave, such as those building water and lava systems. It is a Fabric mod for the client only, so servers do not need it and players can join without installing anything. It is released under the MIT License and is open source, with the source code and issue tracker publicly linked. Builds exist for 1.20.1 – 1.21.11, and the latest Fabric file targets 1.21.11.

Installation needs Fabric Loader and Fabric API. Files are published for eight release versions, 1.20.1, 1.20.4, 1.21.1, 1.21.4, 1.21.6, 1.21.7, 1.21.8 and 1.21.11, and the mod was first released on 2026-02-15.

Key features

  1. In-world fluid levels

Level numbers float above water and lava blocks, so flow values are visible while building or testing.

  2. Source block marker

Source blocks display an S instead of a number, which separates them from flowing fluid at a glance.

  3. Falling fluid values

Falling fluids show the level value that matches the F3 debug menu, so the two readings agree.

  4. F7 toggle

The F7 key turns the level display on or off without changing any game settings.

Use cases

Testing fluid flow

Players building water or lava contraptions can read flow levels directly in the world as they place blocks.

Learning fluid behavior

Players studying how fluids spread and fall can compare the in-world numbers with the debug screen.

Who it’s for: Players and builders who study fluid mechanics in single-player worlds or on servers, and who want level values visible without leaving the game view.
