FixEscape

by oxodao

FixEscape lets players set a second key that opens the escape menu, with the binding made against the physical key pressed.

ForgeNeoForgeClient-side onlyCustom license1.19 – 26.2

What it does

Some keyboard layouts and remapping tools change which key reports the escape action, which can leave the game menu out of reach. FixEscape adds a second escape key that can be rebound to any key a player chooses, and it reads the physical key that was pressed rather than the emitted key code. Players who rebind keys can use the mod to keep the menu reachable, and it also works for players who remap caps lock to escape. The mod is published for Forge and NeoForge for game versions 1.19 – 26.2, with files covering 23 release versions.

Only the player's game needs it, and servers run without it. The code is released under a custom license and is not open source, though its source code is public. A Fabric build is needed for Fabric users, and the author credits TheEnderCore's EscapeScreen as a reference.

Key features

  1. Second escape key

Adds a second key that opens the escape menu alongside the standard one.

  2. Rebindable key

The extra escape key can be set to any key in the controls settings.

  3. Physical key detection

Matches the key that was physically pressed, so remapped keys still open the menu.

What the author says

Instead of using the emited key, they use the physical key pressed. People that rebind keys are left alone on this. This mod adds a second escape key that is re-bindable on any key you want. So you can finally play the game again even if you're using caps:swapescape.
