Feed the Bees

by GardenSystem

Feed the Bees changes how bees behave around sugar and stings, and adds a slimeball recipe built from honey and lime dye.

What it does

Bees can be fed sugar to heal them, so a player can keep a hive's bees alive without losing them. The mod also changes what happens after a sting: a bee no longer dies, and it takes half a heart of damage and regenerates its stinger instead. Its purpose, as the author describes it, is to make bees safer to keep. The changes apply to bees in the world, and players interact with them as they normally would.

The mod adds one crafting recipe, slimeballs made from honey and lime dye, so the honey from bees has a use in crafting. It is a small mod that changes a few bee mechanics rather than adding new mobs or blocks. Feed the Bees runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. It is published for Quilt only, with files for 1.19.2 – 1.20.1 across five game versions, and the latest file is 1.2.4+1.19 for 1.20.1. The code is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only.

Key features

  1. Sugar heals bees

Feeding sugar to a bee restores its health, so injured bees can be kept alive.

  2. Bees survive stinging

A sting no longer kills the bee; it costs half a heart and the stinger grows back.

  3. Honey and lime dye recipe

A recipe turns honey and lime dye into slimeballs, giving honey a crafting use.

  4. Small, focused changes

The mod alters a few bee behaviors and leaves the rest of the game as it is.
