Fexcraft Common Library

by Fexcraft

Fexcraft Common Library, short-named FCL, is a library mod that supplies shared utilities to other mods made by Fexcraft.

What it does

FCL bundles utilities that several Fexcraft mods rely on. Its annotation-based registry lets a developer register blocks, items and tile entities with a single line of code, and blocks can be registered without item variants. Tile entities can be bound to their block, and special renderers and a custom model loader cover static blocks using the TMT model format as well as item models that are rendered in code.

Interface support covers a GUI library and wrapper, a universal JSON UI library and a universal config UI, which other mods can use through ConfigBase. Fex's Render Library is listed among the bundled pieces. Because FCL is a dependency, it has to be installed next to any mod that requires it, and the environment is client and server, so the server and every player need it.

Files are published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, with game versions 1.12.2 – 26.1.2 across nine release versions. The latest Fabric file is 26.12 for 26.1.2, the latest Forge file is 20.47 for 1.20.1, and the latest NeoForge file is 20.6 for 1.20.4. FCL is released under a custom license and is not open source, though its source code, issue tracker and wiki are public.

Key features

  1. Annotation-based registry

Blocks, items and tile entities are registered from annotations, so a single line of code can register each one.

  2. Variant-free blocks and items

Blocks and items can be registered without variants when a mod does not need them.

  3. Custom model loaders

A loader renders static blocks from TMT models and draws item models directly in code.

  4. Config and UI helpers

A universal config UI and JSON UI library let dependent mods build configuration screens through ConfigBase.

Use cases

Mods built on FCL

Developers of Fexcraft mods use the registry, renderers and GUI wrappers instead of writing their own.

Who it’s for: Mod developers who want shared registration, rendering and UI code for Fexcraft-style mods, and players who run the vehicle and transportation mods that need FCL installed.

Questions

14 catalog mods require it, including Fex's Vehicle & Transportation Mod, Plain Cars Pack, General Essentials Pack, Fex's Vehicle Pack and FSMM - Fex's Small Money Mod.

Does FCL have to be installed on the server?

Yes. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too.
