Faster Random

by AnOpenSauceDev

Faster Random replaces the random number generators Minecraft uses during world generation and some client-side work, with the stated aim of speeding them up on slower generator types.

FabricNeoForgeQuiltClient or server, optionalApache License 2.0Open source1.19 – 1.21.1

What it does

The mod targets the slower random generators in the game. According to its author, the replacement applies to structure placement and generation, feature and carver placement and generation, and some client-side tasks such as dropped items. Generators that are already fast are left unchanged.

The mod is archived as of 2025-12-27 and receives no updates. The author says it should only be used with worlds that were already generated with Faster Random, so that vanilla parity is kept, and that any speed gain may be small, situational or unmeasurable. Files exist for Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt, covering 1.19 – 1.21.1. Either side can run it, and neither needs it. The code is under the Apache License 2.0, so it is open source.

Key features

  1. Faster slow generators

Replaces the slower random generators with faster ones for work that Minecraft performs during world generation.

  2. Structure and feature placement

Applies the replacement to structure placement and generation, plus feature and carver placement and generation.

  3. Dropped item handling

Includes some client-side random work, such as the placement of dropped items.

  4. Benchmark testmod

A testmod runs a benchmark against each random method so the author's performance claims can be checked.

  5. MC-239059 patch

Patches the MC-239059 bug, which the author describes as having little effect on gameplay.

What the author says

Faster Random has been archived as of 2025-12-27, and has not been publicly updated in over a year. This is because I've both heard of and gotten far too many conflicting results about this mod's performance, and feel as though this mod should not be relied on as a result.
