F3 CHANGER

by WhitoutCookies

F3 Changer lets players rebind the key that toggles the F3 debug menu in Minecraft, through the game's own controls screen.

FabricClient-side onlyApache License 2.0Open source1.21.7 – 26.3

What it does

By default the F3 key toggles the debug overlay. This Fabric mod adds a custom keybinding for the debug menu, so the key can be moved to another button. The change is made in Options, then Controls, then Key Binds, where the Debug Menu category lists the entry to reassign. The mod is built on Fabric API Mixins and does not replace any other part of the game.

The mod is client-side only, so a server does not need it and players join without installing anything. It is published for Fabric only, across 10 release versions, including the 26.1, 26.2 and 26.3 snapshot builds. The code is open source under the Apache License 2.0, and the source code and wiki are linked from the project page.

Key features

  1. Debug menu keybinding

A custom keybinding is registered for the F3 debug menu toggle, so the key can be changed in the controls menu.

  2. Controls menu entry

The binding appears under the Debug Menu category in Key Binds, next to the other controls the game already offers.

  3. Configurable key

Any key can be assigned to the debug menu toggle, which removes the need to reach for F3 on keyboards where it is awkward.

  4. Mixin-based implementation

The change uses Fabric API Mixins to hook into the existing debug handling instead of rewriting it.

Use cases

Who it’s for: Players who use the debug overlay often and want its toggle key somewhere else. The mod suits single-player and multiplayer clients, since only the client needs it.

Questions

Does F3 Changer need Fabric API?

The mod is built on Fabric API Mixins, so Fabric API must be installed alongside it on Fabric.

Does a server need F3 Changer?

No. Servers do not need it; each player installs it for their own game.

Which game versions are supported?

Release builds cover the full supported list, and the latest file is for 26.3, published on 2026-09-22.

Is the key change saved between sessions?

The binding is set in the game's own Key Binds menu, so it is stored with the other controls the game keeps.

What the author says

By default, Minecraft uses the F3 key to toggle the debug overlay. This mod lets you rebind that key to any key you prefer through the game's controls menu.
