f1le
by L24
F1le, a Forge horror mod by L24, adds unsettling scares that take over the game, from sudden lava and jump-scares to fake crashes and a mimic-style stalker.
What it does
Built around a horror theme, f1le runs a broken datapack of scripted events that interfere with normal play. Its listed effects include a night-time shift, lava appearing around the player, screen shakes and kicks, fake blue-screen crashes, a nuker effect, shuffled and shrunken elements, a staring presence, a spy event, a forced attack, a fake join message and a door-spam sound. Other scares imitate a mimic, fill the world with steve figures, lock chunks, kill mobs, set a diamond trap and call out the player's footsteps.
The mod is also meant to touch the computer itself and uses Windows APIs to do so. Its lighting effects can flash strongly, and the author warns that players sensitive to flashing lights or epilepsy should not play it. Installation is limited to Windows, with Linux and macOS support listed as coming later.
Files target Forge for 1.20.1 only. The latest Forge build, 2.5, was published on 2026-07-09 after the first release on 2026-01-28. f1le runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it, and it is published under All rights reserved, so it is not open source.

Use cases
Who it’s for: Players who want horror content for Forge 1.20.1 and can run it on Windows, and server owners who plan to host the scares for a group that has agreed to play it.
How it compares
Experiment 277 is a Forge 1.20.1 mod that runs on client and server and is open source under the MIT License, so its code can be read and reused, while f1le is not open source. D3dykcea's Horror Structures is also Forge 1.20.1 but is server-side only, so players join without installing anything, while f1le requires both sides.
